I feel so bored at work and it has made me feel so disengaged. Yet at the same time I am worried about making a career move in this pandemic impacted economy.
"I would like to leave but I am unsure of my options and how to move on."
Eddy works in the MICE sector, an industry wrecked by the COVID19 pandemic. Amidst the chaos, Eddy managed to make a move into a new company with the hope of continuing to do what he enjoyed - planning and executing events. However his hope was short-lived as the new company also scaled back plans for events. Eddy was redesignated to handle smaller and seemingly menial tasks.
While Eddy remains grateful for a job, he became concerned about how he was spending his time at work and what his duties were. Eddy often completed his work quickly and had no new assigned work to do. His supervisor also didn't have much to assign to him in the first place. Very quickly, Eddy felt underutilised and unchallenged. Before long, Eddy became bored and disengaged.
Eddy started to think about making a move but he was unsure of what he should be doing. The MICE industry recovery was not complete and he also had other interests to explore. At the same time, he was worried about the possibility of making a move and jeopardising his income in the midst of a shaky economy. Eddy was stuck and unsure of what to do.
"I love exploring new challenges"
Eddy found help from Avodah People Solutions. Through his #CareerDeveloper, Eddy learnt more about himself and what his likes and dislikes are. This translated in his work as Eddy enjoys challenging himself to plan exciting and impactful events for his clients, with each one by better than the last. "I like to set the bar higher and I know I have standards" Eddy shared with his #CareerDeveloper.
Through the guidance from Avodah People Solutions, Eddy also explored his hobbies and what they meant to him and how it applied to work. Eddy picked out on his ability to innovate within boundaries and bring about better results - "Now I understand my ability to innovate within a box of boundaries". Through the process, Eddy also recognised his strengths, abilities and the environments that he enjoyed working in, a group of like minded people challenging each other towards a shared goal.
"I want to take on the challenge of helping others overcome their own challenges"
As a result of the process, Eddy crafted a career narrative for himself, to be helping others be better. He sees himself taking on the challenge of helping others overcome their challenges. With guidance from his #CareerDeveloper, Eddy discussed possible job options aligned with his narrative and his strengths and abilities. Eddy also developed a plan to help him know how to adjust his life roles and activities to move him closer to making a job change.
With the new found awareness and direction, Eddy was now clearer about who he was and what he needed to do in order to move from boredom to fulfilment.
